Every year since 1927, Time Magazine has been giving its Person of the Year award. The 2007 award goes to Vladimir Putin, the Russian President. Other contestants were Al Gore, former US Vice President and JK Rowling, Harry Potter author.
Former US presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton won this award before, as well as Bill Gates, Microsoft founder.
Time’s Magazine justifies its choice by saying that this award “never has been an honor”. They have rewarded Mr Putin because he ” has performed an extroardinary feat of leadership in imposing stability on a nation that has rarely known it”.
I don’t think giving a reward to an former KGB official who does everything he can to stay control of Russia is a great idea. What do you think ?
I can’t understand why such a person is rewarded as “man of the year”…
A reason why Time Magazine decided to reward Putin (according to a newspaper; the newspaper wrote that this is a statement of Times): Putin was able to bring Russia back to the global players, although Russia is not as democratic as before…
