Leaders of eight predominantly Muslim countries are meeting in Kuala Lumpur, while G8 leaders are gathering in Japan.
The D8, of Group of Eight Islamic Developing Countries, opened its meeting on Tuesday to tackle issues in the developing world.
West Bank charity shut down by Israeli troops

The West Bank town of Nablus has been raided on Monday by Israeli troops, who shut down three facilities of a Hamas-affiliated charity and a medical centre, Palestinians say.

World leaders are meeting in Tokyako, on the island of Hokkaido (photo), Japan, for a summit of the Group of Eight. In an effort to tackle global warming, they have agreed to set a global target of cutting carbon emissions by at least 50% by 2050.

For the first time, Nuri al-Maliki (photo, from topnews.in), Iraq’s prime minister has publicly called for a US troop withdrawal timetable.
On Monday, he said that provisions for the withdrawal of American troops should be included in a military agreement the two countries are negotiating.
Prisoner swap deal signed by Israel and Hezbollah

A UN-mediated prisoner exchange deal has been signed by Israel and Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shia movement.
On Monday, the office of Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, and a Lebanese political source said a date for the swap will be settled this week.
Khan’s nuclear claim denied

A claim by Abdul Qadeer Khan, the architect of the country’s nuclear programme, has been denied by Pakistan’s military on Saturday. Mr Khan said last week that in 2000, the army, under Pervez Musharraf, the current president, supervised a shipment of centrifuges to North Korea.
