Carla Bruni, the ex-model and wife of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, has left Colombia’s leaders furious with her new song.
The French first lady has been working on a new album, and in one of the songs she mentions “Colombia white”.
“You are my drug. More deadly than Afghan heroin. More dangerous than Colombian white”, Mrs Bruni reportedly sings.
“From the mouth of the wife of the French president, this statement is very painful for Colombia”, said Fernando Araujo, Bogota’s top diplomat . He added that “such things come out when we mix politics with theatre”.
The world’s leading source of cocaine is Colombia, to whom consumption of the drug “translates into deaths and violence in Colombia”, said Mr Araujo.
“And instead of making an apology for consumption, we hope that the entire world will join us in the war against drugs”, he said.
Carla Bruni’s third album has recently been previewed for journalists. It is due to be released in July. It is not clear who the lyrics of that song are describing.
Carla Bruni’s relationship with the French president has caused a sensation since it first hit the headlines, as he is criticised for his jet-set, superstar lifestyle.
Christie’s auction house sold, earlier this year, a controversial photograph of Mrs Bruni in the nude, for 20 times its expected price, bagging £45,000.
