 Nuon Chea, former “brother number two” of the Khmer Rouge, has had an appeal against his pretrial detention, rejected in Cambodia, by a special UN-backed tribunal.

The tribunal judges, meeting in Phnom Penh on Thursday, said there were “well founded” reasons to believe that Nuon Chea committed the crimes of which he is accused. (more…)

Survivors of Khmer Rouge regime are looking for justice. For the first time they have addressed a UN-backed genocide court. They spoke at a bail hearing for Nuon Chea, one of five senior Khmer Rouge officials awaiting trial, charged with crimes against humanity. Nuon Chea was the so-called Brother Number Two to Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot. (more…)
