Polish report says Russia partly responsible for presidential plane crash

Over a year ago Lech Kaczynski, who was Poland’s president at the time, died in a plane crash near Smolensk airport in western Russia. All 96 people on board the TU-154 Tupolev, mostly Polish officials, died when the plane crashed while trying to land in heavy fog. (more…)
Poland’s acting president declared winner

It’s official, the winner of the Polish presidential election is Bronislaw Komorowski (photo, from aljazeera.net).
Election officials said that the acting president won 53.01% of the vote while rival Jaroslaw Kaczynski got 46.99%, in the run-off. (more…)

Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president (photo, from aljazeera.net), and several members of his government have died in a plane crash near Smolensk airport in western Russia.
96 people, mostly Polish officials, were killed on Saturday when the president’s Tupolev Tu-154 plane went down in heavy fog, said Russia’s emergency ministry. (more…)

Ireland says ‘yes’ to Lisbon Treaty

The European Union’s Lisbon Treaty is back on track, with the Irish voters who approved the 27-nation bloc’s plans for reform.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy has met the Dalai Lama in the Polish city of Gdansk, during a gathering of Nobel laureates.
The planned meeting angered Beijing, which has retaliated by cancelling a forthcoming China-EU summit in France. (more…)
