The 2011 Nobel Peace Prize has been presented during a ceremony in the Norwegian capital Oslo to three women who have fought against dictatorship, injustice and sexual violence in Liberia and Yemen.
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the president of Liberia, Leymah Gbowee, the Liberian peace activist, and Tawakkol Karman, the Yemeni pro-democracy campaigner collected their diplomas and medals at Oslo’s city hall on Saturday (photo, from bbcimg.co.uk). (more…)

A recording of the first call of Anders Behring Breivik (photo, from bbcimg.co.uk) to the police was broadcast by Norwegian commercial TV channel TV 2 for the first time on Tuesday.
Norwegians have heard the self-confessed mass killer introduce himself as a “Norwegian anti-communist resistance commander” and say he wants to surrender. (more…)

Two attacks killed at least 92 people on Friday in Norway. At 3:20pm local time a bomb killed seven people in the government quarter in Oslo (photo, from aljazeera.net) and later a gunman opened fire at a youth summer camp in Utoya island, near the country’s capital. (more…)

More than 100 nations have signed a landmark treaty in Oslo, to ban some forms of cluster bomb. (map, from cnn.com)
On Wednesday, Norway was the first country to sign the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) and played a key role in hammering out the worldwide ban on using, producing, transferring and stockpiling cluster munitions. (more…)
