Egyptian blogger sentenced to three years in jail

Maikel Nabil, an Egyptian internet activist, has been sentenced by a military court to three years in jail for criticising the armed forces.
Since president Hosni Mubarak resigned on February 11, the military has been ruling the country. (more…)

Earlier this month clashes broke out when the military tried to clear protesters from Tahrir Square on 9 March (photo, from bbcimg.co.uk). According to Amnesty International 18 women protesters were arrested, tortured and forced to take “virginity tests” by the Egyptian army. (more…)

In a bid to stave of unrest, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Algeria’s president, said the country’s 19-year state of emergency will be lifted in the “very near future”, state media has quoted. (more…)
Cairo court rules on Egyptian men married to Israeli women

A ruling has been upheld by a court in Cairo, urging the government to consider stripping Egyptian men who are married to Israeli women of their citizenship.
