The body of an Italian woman has been found in Turkey. Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo (photo, from Cronaca Qui), 33, wanted to travel through the Middle East dressed as a bride, in order to promote world peace.
Her naked body was found in bushes near the city of Gebze on Friday, after she was last seen on 31 March in this city.
Turkish police say they have detained a man who was connected with her killing and led them to the body.
The police tracked the man when he put a new SIM card into Ms di m Marineo’s mobile phone. The suspect has been identified only by his initials MK by Local media, who said he had a previous conviction for theft.
Brides on Tour
Known as Pippa Bacca, Ms di Marineo said her aim was to show that she could put her trust in the kindness of local people.
With Silvia Moro, a fellow artist, Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo was hitch-hiking on their “Brides on Tour”, going from Milan to Lebanon, and finish in Israel and Palestine. But they had separated in Istanbul and planned to reunite in Beirut.
Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo’s sister, gone to Turkey to look for her, identified the body and an autopsy is being conducted in Istambul.
Another sister, Maria, told Italian news agency Ansa : “her travels were an artistic performance and to give a message of peace and of trust, but not everyone deserves trust.”
Not cool.
Global Warming Alarmists Beware… http://www.EvilCarbon.com
Tragic.
Tragic consequences for a misguided effort. Promoting peace is a very worthy cause, but a woman hitchhiking alone in a bride costume? Sounds like a publicity stunt gone wrong and can only be seen by evildoers as an opportunity to commit an evil act. I am sad but hope others will learn a lesson…
She was brave. That’s what she was. She’ll be remembered together with other brave people. We won’t forget her here in Turkey.
First thought that assalted me was my mother’s, aunt’s and ultimately all my relatives warning of never go out alone, never enter a car from an unknown, don’t go out looking for trouble ’cause the world is too hard for girls.
I bet any woman or even man has had the same thought at the news of a woman’s project to go from middle Europe to Palestina, dressed as a bride and hitch hiking all the way to her destination. Crazy some would have said, fool others have wispered and at last, she had what it was more than clear to happen most of us all will conclude.
I too had this tought lingering for some hours. Why would someone go and tease probabilities, why would a woman go and do what any of us women knows by early teachings we should avoid doing to savegard our lives and our integrity? And the reason why we all think this way is because we know by experience and facts that we women are still second class citizens in no matter which country. Our societies show us in every way that we are less worthy than men: we earn less, we have less opportunities, we work harder and longer and offenders against women are attributed in general low penalties if any. As long women have this status there will be thousands, millions other Pippas in the world, and they don’t even need to hitch hike in wedding gown to make their point.
Pippa has dedicated her adventurous action in name of peace- she believed men, people in general are good if we expect them to be and treat them with dignity. Pippa isn’t the story of a woman but the story of women. Pippa was not wrong with her bold adventure, it is her right. The fault is to our mentality, to men’s mentality. As long men see the low risk of attacking, abusing, raping, robbing, wound and killing children and women and not being judged for capital crime there will be many more Pippas and you, the reader of these few lines will be in her skin at least once in your life, not on the road to Palestina but on your own country, on your town. Not for some adventurous project but simply because you are there and you as a woman have to live with it.
Although Pippa didn’t arrive to her destination she did achieve her aim: she has passed the message of Peace and the Bride on Tour will be in our heads and hearts as a symbol. Only we women can change the way women are treated. It is our duty to make a change!
Yeyy! Relieved to see there are people who understand that the core of the problem here are the world´s injust and discriminative conditions for women, instead of adding to them by blaiming pippa for her own death (always the woman´s fault right?)
keep the faith!
how can you be so bloody naive?
hitch-hiking through war-ravaged countries alone, dressed as a bride is not the smartest move.
and what about friends and family? how comes no-one had the brain to tell her it was a really stupid idea??
she should have sticked to her idealistic discussions with her posh artist friends who don’t have a clue of how hard and rough the real world is.
and now they are suggesting to give her a nobel prize.. for what? stupidity???
For positive change to occur some of us must step out of our “safe-zone,” otherwise nothing will change and people will go on living in fear.
She chose to trust in humanity, that was her choice and everyone has that right.
Pippa Bacca is one of the most courageous women I have ever heard of.
What a compassionate being of light!
